How we work
Providing hope and changing lives
We look for the most vulnerable girls who are likely to become pregnant in their childhood, and offer them the possibility of a better future. Once selected, we provide them with full scholarships. We make micro grants to their mothers and educate them about starting and administering "micro businessses". We conduct seminars with the parents about basic financial planning and money management. We provide social counseling to the candidates and their parents. In each major locality where we operate, we will build a community center as the focal point of all of our activities. We confer with our candidates’ schools and teachers to identify potential problems and to deal with them preemptively. We conduct periodic home visits.
We will start our first Summer Program in Morissot this Summer 2020. The Summer program consists of counseling, tutoring (in preparation for the new academic year), community building programs, and full canteen.
In order to keep the girls engaged continuously, we break the year into many parts and celebrate each part with an event. Beginning in August 2020, we will celebrate Middle of Summer, First day of school, November 18th (Bataille de Vertieres,a decisive battle in Haiti’s War of Independence), Christmas day, New Year’s day (Haitian Independence day), Eastern Sunday, May 18 (Flag Day and University Day), and Report cards day at the closing of the school year. The goal here is to keep the girls from getting bored by constantly giving them something to look forward to, and to help build a sense of sisterhood among them.
Throughout the year, we maintain constant contact with the parents by phone and by means of field aides who can pay home visits and report back to us. As the girls get older, we establish channels of communication (with parental permission) with them as well in order to help guide them, and to provide them with an always available ear as they need it.
“ The HOPE of a better future gives us the strength to endure even in our bleakest moments.”
Julien Moliere
2013 - 2019
The idea for HOPE SAVES began with a single twelve year old fatherless girl in Haiti in August 2013, named Gabrielle. That girl is now a thriving young woman of 18 years old (going on 19), doing well in school, and aspiring to become a nurse. We have not changed Haiti in the course of that time, but we have changed Haiti for that girl. She has the HOPE of a better future within her reach. Our objective is to help her, and many others like her, get there.
As of August 2019, our organization had 19 girls, ranging from 5 to 18 years old. The need for our service is huge, but we have to keep the number of girls low for now because of the limitations of our financial means. We seek to branch out and expand as our funding grows.
We, as an organization, have great HOPE of a thriving future where our efforts are reaching the four corners of Haiti and beyond, empowering hopeless young girls, offering them HOPE and showing them the door to a brighter future. Our goal for August 2020 is to reach 30 girls with the benevolent assistance of our donors.
